First of all remember that detoxing does not necessarily focus on losing weight but on cleansing your body from the toxins accumulated in the “overindulgence period.” So how do you start?

Step no.1 – stop buying sweets. This is a trick that always works with me because I have no self-control. If I have chocolate or sweets in my house I have to eat them. Period. Another good tip would be to get rid of your secret stash. This way you will not be tempted to fall off the wagon.

Step no.2 – start your day with a big glass of water. This will not only help the digestive system but it will also keep your skin hydrated, boost your metabolism and assure a better functioning of the circulatory and respiratory system. According to IOM men should drink around 3.7 liters/ day and women around 2.7 liters/day.

Step no.3 – eat snacks between meals. This way you will manage to control your food cravings and manage to eat less even if you eat more often. Remember: by snacks I mean yogurt, nuts, carrots, celery, smoothies, etc. and not cookies, chocolate, chips or croissants.

Step no.4 – ginger, lemon juice and sea salt. These three little friends are your allies after any period loaded with excessive fats and sugar. Mix together 1/2 cup of lemon juice, a piece of ginger cut into thin slices and 1/2 teaspoon sea salt. Let this rest throughout the night. Eat 1-2 slices of ginger before dinner. This is the time of day when you metabolism is at its lowest point. The ginger will boost your metabolism and diminish the sensation of hunger.

Step no.5 – eat more greens – change the red of the meat with the green of the vegetables. Kale, broccoli, lettuce, peppers or cabbage are just some of the examples that will make you feel full while cleansing the toxins from your body.

Step no. 6 – soups too – it is a widely known fact that soups have a magical way of burning fats and giving your body the sensation of fullness. This way you don’t feel the need to eat large portions of food and increase the intake of calories.

Detox is very important for the well-being of the human body. Being healthy makes you feel happy, gives you more energy and optimism. Who doesn’t want to be all these things?
