The road trip is one of the classic ways of getting round America. It is so popular with Americans and tourists that it has been immortalized in many great novels such as Jack Kerouac’s On The Road. These all-American trips are often seen as rites of passage for teenagers and college students. So are you ready to set out on your own road trip adventure? Here are some of the best routes to take.

Route 66

I’m sure you will have all heard about Route 66. This long highway stretches all the way from Santa Monica in California to Chicago in Illinois. There are over two-thousand miles of road to drive. So there is no wonder why so many people hire or buy RVs from the likes of Chesapeake RV Solutions and sleep in their trailer while driving. It’ll certainly work out a lot cheaper than staying in a hotel every night! Some of the highlights along the route include the famous Cadillac Ranch and Ed Galloway’s Totem Pole Park.

Pacific Coast

The Pacific Coast road trip begins in the Olympic National Park in Washington and follows the coast all the way down to San Diego in California. It’s a route that will take you past America’s diverse landscape. You’ll drive through lush forests as you go south through the Pacific Northwest. And then you’ll hit beautiful desserts when following the road through southern California. There are plenty of cities to stop off in, including Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco.

Atlantic Coast

Of course, the Pacific Coast route isn’t the only coastal route in America. There is also the eastern Atlantic Coast as well. This route starts at the Statue of Liberty in New York City and ends up at the northern tip of Florida. It’s a great way to see some of the East Coast’s sights and attractions. Stop off at the scenic Myrtle Beach to take a dip in the ocean. Or visit Kitty Hawk, made famous when the Wright brothers flew their first airplane there.

The Loneliest Road

The route between San Francisco in California and the Chesapeake Bay in has been given the nickname of the loneliest road. You’ll drive through the stunning desert surroundings of Utah and Nevada. You’ll also pass right by the Rocky Mountains. It isn’t just rugged terrain, though. You’ll also see pretty Lake Tahoe and the agricultural heartlands of Ohio and Indiana. You’ll drive right through Washington DC as well. It can be worth stopping a couple of nights in the capital to learn about the history of American democracy.

The Great Northern

No other road trip will take in as many different landscapes like the Great Northern route. And no other road trip will be quite so long! Starting in Seattle, the road takes drivers along the American-Canadian border. It finally ends in Maine’s Acadia National Park. Don’t expect many large cities to stop off in. But the unbeatable scenery will certainly make up for that!

So next time you’re planning a trip to the States, it could be worth thinking about hiring a car or RV!
