EDA asks law firms for assistance on Basmati rice intellectual property

The Agriculture and Processed Food Development Agency (EDA) has asked law firms specializing in the registration and protection of intellectual property for tenders, the Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) and the EDA on registration and to support intellectual property protection in relation to basmati rice in India and abroad.

The selected company will initially be hired for a period of two years, according to a message from the EDA, while offers can be submitted to the EDA until May 31, 2021 (5 p.m.).

The scope of work includes advising the BEDF / EDA on the protection of Basmati and its variety names disclosed from time to time under the Seeds Act -1961 in relation to the full range of intellectual property laws and assistance with the Registration / protection of Basmati in India and abroad.

Monitoring of national and international trademark registers and geographical indications (GIs)
) on third party efforts to register the Basmati Intellectual Property and its variety names communicated from time to time under the Seeds Act -1961 and taking the necessary action in India and abroad.

And action against potential threats to the Basmati name and its variety names announced from time to time under the Seeds Act -1961 in India and abroad through cease and desist, contradictions, cancellations, legal proceedings or any other action with the BEDF / EDA’s representation before the Courts in India and abroad, including the Geographical Indications and Trademarks Register and the Pellate Board of Intellectual Property.

The notice states that the selection of the successful bidder will be based on technical and financial criteria. An EDA committee carries out a review of the technical offer and selects the bidders who meet the prescribed requirements. The shortlisted bidders must give a technical presentation to the selection committee before the final selection.
