FSSAI suspends pandemic easing order for food companies

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has stated that their order allowing food companies (non-manufacturers) to operate using the 17-digit application reference number will cease from June 30, 2021 on the prevailing Covid-19- Pandemic.

Likewise, in the case of manufacturers, the relaxation of higher capacity operations based on an application to change the license will also cease.

In this regard, the FSSAI has issued an order that also states that the limited inspection and electronic inspection orders will end on June 30th and the physical inspection will begin.

The FSSAI passed some easing this year in ril to keep food businesses running more smoothly, while all states began to lock down due to a pandemic.

Meanwhile, the order states that the deadline for filing annual online returns through FoSCoS will be extended to December 31.

The former Food Inspectorate has asked the state food safety departments to alert food business operators to these developments. It has requested the state food authorities to take action against the defaulting persons in the event of non-compliance with the annual declarations after the last filing date.
