montreal

Breakfast, the most important meal of the day. While some make time for it and others don’t, I believe a good breakfast is the cornerstone of a great day, no matter what city you are in. One city that has a divine breakfast scene is Montreal, Quebec. A foodie dream tour, Montreal combines multiple cultures with its Parisian heritage to deliver some of the most delicious and filling breakfasts on the planet. In order to track down some of the best breakfast spots in the city I spoke with JustFly, an online travel agency. They gave me a lost of some of the best places to start your day in the city, starting with a classic that has been a starting point for many in the neighbourhood of Notre Dame De Grace.

Cosmos

A legend according to JustFly’s review, Cosmos is the greasiest of greasiest, and they aren’t afraid to brag about it. Their staff is confrontational, but fun. The diner itself looks like it has survived a nuclear war. But, the food is second to none and is perfect for those mornings you have after a long night out. The rock on which this breakfast palace is built is made potatoes. Skipping on their generous helpings of hash browns is a classic mistake, so, don’t screw that up. Beyond that, their unique breakfast “mashes” and breakfast sandwiches fulfill the promise that is a Cosmos breakfast.

Burgundy Lion

Something quite a bit more refined, Burgundy Lion’s breakfast is the quintessential British breakfast experience in the city of Montreal. Crumpets, kippers, blood pudding, squeaks, and their variety of breakfast cocktails dot their menu as you are transported to a well put together British pub. JustFly recommends the full English breakfast, just so you get a chance to have a little bit of everything on the menu. Don’t worry though, they also nail the basics if you are looking for something familiar.

Prohibition

A Southwest dining experience, Prohibitions revolving menu can at times have a different taste every weekend. It makes the list on the strength of two amazing dishes. Chicken and waffles are, of course, a must try if you arrive on an empty stomach. If you are looking for some truly unique flavours you have to try the Bulgarian benedict. This spin on eggs benedict, which incorporates greek yogurt among other things, is a very unique dish that you won’t find anywhere else in the city, which tells you about how special it is.
