This week’s recall roundup contains warning messages Listeria monocytogenes in the USA and Germany and undeclared allergens in Canada.

Listeria monocytogenes

J&J Distributing of St. Paul, Minnesota, is recalling several products because they could be contaminated with them Listeria monocytogenes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that the contamination was detected after routine testing Listeria monocytogenes on a utensil used to make the product. In Germany, the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) announced the recall of Floratum Feinkosts Florina peppers with soft cheese after it was discovered that the product was contaminated Listeria monocytogenes. The product was only sold in Bavaria, but check that out BVL website for the full details of the recall, including the affected product codes.

Foreign objects

There have been two cases of plastic contamination this week. The first has led supermarket Lidl to recall its birchwood beef and pork ground beef (23 percent fat) in the UK on the grounds that it may contain pieces of plastic. Affected are products weighing 750g with an expiration date of March 1, 2021. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) recommends customers who purchased the product return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.

Minced meat is also the subject of a recall in Germany, where the Edeka supermarket is recalling its Hofglück and Edeka Bio branded minced meat. again because of possible plastic contamination. It is believed that the affected products were sold in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Thuringia.

Undeclared allergens

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has reported three recalls for undeclared allergens. Hpy Veggie World’s Vege Meatball brand was recalled because wheat was not listed on the packaging. According to the CFIA, the products affected by the recall were distributed in Alberta and British Columbia.

Similarly, GluteNull brand Goji Berries & Chocolate Cookies and Goldroast brand Instant Nutritious Cereal (original flavor) are being recalled due to the presence of undeclared milk. Goji Berries & Chocolate’s affected products were sold in British Columbia, while Instant Nutritious Cereal was sold in Ontario and possibly nationally.
