Make sure your passport is valid
We often forget to check the expiration dates on our passports, but this is an important detail in your visa application process.
Most visa application requirements call for your passport to be valid for at least three to six months from the date you intend to leave the destination.
Some visas, such as the US ESTA Tourist Visa, may require your passport to be an electronic passport that contains a digital chip with biometric information.
Follow ALL requirements
You will usually find a checklist of the visa requirements for your destination. It is important that you meet ALL requirements by providing all documentation.
The last thing you want to do is waste a space on Visa points by being rejected just for leaving out a document.
The standard requirements are usually:
- Your visa application form (filled in exactly).
- Current passport photos.
- Valid passport.
- Round-trip flight details (learn how to get Che flights here).
- Accommodation bookings or letters of invitation.
- Proof of financial means.
- Travel insurance.
- Proof of paid visa.
Every visa is different. So make sure that your research is specific to the destination you are visiting as some may require additional documents.
Depending on the type of visa you are applying for, whether it is a business visa, a working holiday visa, or a long-term visa, you may need additional documentation. Some countries may require you to submit an employment letter from your country.

Make clear your reason for travel

Are you visiting family? Are you going to work or a conference? Is this just a vacation trip?
You are asked to prove your reason. For example, if you are visiting a family, you may need to provide a letter of invitation along with a copy of your family passport. When you go to work, you will likely need to come up with a letter from your work.
Include a cover letter
This tip is mainly aimed at people applying for a Schengen visa, for which it is quite common to include a cover letter in your application.
This is your time to shine and PITCH yourself. Include your reasons for traveling to the country (including the fact that you love the country), your planned itinerary, your financial resources, and your reasons for returning home. They want to know what you are going to do in their country and that you will leave when your visa expires.
Easy visa applications come for those who are prepared. Do your research, prepare your documents and start the process early!
